Find a Garden Select a location below or click on the RAP Map to find a participating garden near you or wherever you happen to be traveling! Some gardens have exclusions for special events or exhibits. Each garden has its own distinct admissions policies and hours of operation, which is also why we recommend checking ahead of time to get the most up-to-date information.

RAP benefits are only applicable during regular open hours. Please reference individual garden benefit listings to determine if these are offered as benefits at the garden you plan to visit.

Make special note if a garden enforces the mile exclusion. The mile exclusion allows gardens to exclude members of other gardens within 90 miles of them from receiving their reciprocal benefit s unless the gardens mutually agree to lift the exclusion. For AHS members, the exclusion is based on their home address. Please contact the garden you belong to or the garden you plan to visit for further details. Present your current membership card at the admissions counter or gift shop to receive the RAP benefit s listed for that garden.

Each card will only admit the individual s whose name is listed on the card. In the case of a family, couple, or household membership card that does not list individual names, the garden must extend the benefit s to at least two of the members. Some gardens may require a photo ID.

Remember that the gardens you visit rely on admissions and donations to maintain their collections and gardens for all to enjoy. Please support them by visiting their gift shops or making a contribution.

Some gardens included in the RAP Directory have no benefits to reciprocate because they are already free to the public and do not have a membership base. These gardens help to preserve and maintain the Reciprocal Admissions Program through their contribution but they do not share a reciprocal relationship with any of the other gardens listed.

Horticultural Therapy: Planting Seeds for Recovery | By Susie Hall

There has been a lot of talk about doctors writing prescriptions for patients to get outside and enjoy the outdoors, because being in natural settings can reduce stress, improve concentration and lower blood pressure. One of my favorite outside activities is gardening. For example, I was able to work with Janet Chamberlain, a Craig patient who sustained a spinal cord injury, to help her experience the benefits of horticultural therapy throughout her rehab process. As a home gardener before her accident, she was anxious to get back into the garden. To her surprise, she was able to use this leisure activity as therapy to help with strength, endurance and mobility on uneven terrain. Therapeutic gardens can be found in a variety of settings, including out-patient facilities, hospitals, schools, correctional facilities, retirement communities, long term care, and other related healthcare and residential environments. These outdoor garden spaces can be designed to include active uses such as raised planters for horticultural therapy activities or for passive uses such as quiet sitting areas next to shade trees, sensory and flowering plants or water features. Most importantly, therapeutic gardens are specifically designed to meet the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of people using the garden as well as their caregivers, family members and friends.

Getting in touch with nature and plunging hands into soil helps patients and plants flourish. So our Dallas rehabilitation location Villa Creek created a bit of garden therapy by partnering with the local Farmers Branch Community Garden through the Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation Department to adopt a garden plot. Here at Pate, we frequently have patients who have personal goals of returning to gardening and yard work. Patients who are in wheelchairs, but are able to stand with assistance, are able to garden in a comfortable position rather than being required to reach and bend as in a traditional ground-level garden.

Every year Denver Botanic Garden's Horticulture Department welcomes a handful of exceptional horticulture students from across the country to study with us in a project-based, week internship. Chloe Reeves - University of Tennessee, Knoxville Plant Records Curation and Mapping A plant science major, Chloe is led by her passion for the outdoors and will be starting the UT landscape architecture program in the fall. Other than plants, her passions include language, coffee and being outdoors. She graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in horticulture, landscape design and is currently pursuing her horticulture therapy certificate.
